Quito Day 1

I made it to Quito. After a delay in Houston I got in the following day. It's so good to be here. I was greeted by my 'tia dianita' who is like a second mom to me and one of my favorite people in the world, my 'primo juanfer'. It's so refreshing to be with family who love you and are so excited to see you.

My first impressions of Quito after being gone for several years is that everything is so small, quiet and things seem to move so much slower. I'm coming from New York and the pace that things move at there is lighting fast compared to the way things are here.

It didn't take more than a few minutes to get used to it and I just get acclimated to it and move at that pace. Down the road a little ways at our first stop light we got greeted by the guy who sells the days papers, a 7 year old kid selling gum and another young boy juggling some old tennis balls in front of our car asking for some money. The drastic difference between the Us and here hit me fast.

What a different world this is, yet there are also many similarities. I had to stop by the mall cause my cousin had to go to an ATM to grab some cash. walking through the mall I felt like I was transported back into the Palisades Mall in Nyack. All the name brand stores are there and the mall itself puts the Palisades mall to shame for its architecture and perfectly clean and manicured hallways. Third world countries are always places of such high contrasts. Expensive stores and street kids selling trinkets in the street, wealthy businessmen and street vendors looking to earn a few dollars to feed themselves and their families, rich and poor all in the same place. I wish I could say they live in harmony but it's just not the case.

I'm fascinated by this and absolutely love being here. so good for my soul.

Quito is a beautiful city and I hope to get some pictures to showcase this later on this trip. For now here's the view from my tia's apartment. This is what I woke up to this morning!

Regreso a mi tierra.....

It has been almost 3 years since I was last in my home country of Ecuador. I'm so excited to be able to get back and visit family, friends and experience the third world again.

It's so refreshing to me every time I travel anywhere, but specially when I get to go to a third world country where coming into contact with the poor is not hard. I feel my heart get tugged every which way but also I feel myself coming alive every time I am faced with this reality.

I'm already anticipating a great trip and of course I will have my camera with me all the time so expect photos, lots of em in the next week! I may not be able to update as often as I would like but I will do my best. I do have to enjoy my time there!

Free to Succeed!!!! THE TOUR COMING TO NYC!

I know there's some of you that have asked me several questions about starting in wedding photography in person, on facebook and e-mail. Questions from workflow, to lens choices, editing, pricing, etc. So many questions and I have been so excited about sharing the little I feel I have gathered and learned myself in the last 3 years of doing this.

So I have to let you all know about this workshop that is coming to our area (and other areas-check the website). It's by one of my biggest inspirations and amazing guy and photographer David Jay and his crew. I got to hang out with them and attend his first Freedom and Slumber workshop in February of this year and the guys is legit, caring, giving and loves to share all he knows.

I encourage you to sign up and go to this workshop! I will be going to the NYC one so if you are in the area and want to carpool let me know and we'll head on over!

Everybody needs a facelift.....

I've always felt that branding is a key part of any successful business/project and in recent months I felt like my old logo needed a bit of a facelift. I have to give crazy mad props to my friend and initial designer of my original logo, Anthony Strickland. He is a sick designer whom I worked with at the ol' Nyack yearbook for 4 years.

So as I was traveling and meeting lots of cool people in the photo industry I ran across a really cool guy named Marlon who happened to be a graphic designer and he gave my logo the redesign it needed. I loved what he did with it and am so happy to start rolling it out this year in slideshows, my new website (also rolling out later this year) and other areas of my business.

Marlon and I went back and forth several times and through several different edits. He was so patient and gave me the necessary perspective I needed to realize the direction the logo needed to go to have the impact I wanted. I'm so happy with the final result! If you are looking for a great patient and talented graphic designer (who also designs websites and personalized blogs!) check him out

Thanks so much Marlon! You're the best!

Josh Way - Chronicle Comic Rocks!!!

I've had the privilege of knowing Josh for several years now. I went to college with him and later he helped me design my first photo website.  He is super nice at web design, he does the Nyack College web designs.

His true passion though is writing comics and he decided to go after his dream almost a year ago. He started his own comic and has been writing and drawing since then.

To say he is talented is a big understatement. The dude Rocks! As soon as I heard that he was publishing his first comic book I was one of the first in line to buy one.

His writing is hilarious and witty and his drawings are amazing!

Josh, I'm so proud of you for doing this. It's so awesome to see people go after their dreams!  Keep up to good work and I can't wait for the second book to come out!

You guys should check out his strip and subscribe to it. You get a daily comic strip sent to your e-mail and if you want to get the sweet book below you can buy it here. He is headed to Comic-con later this month, which is a HUGE comic convention in San Diego to get his strip out there.

Good luck dude!!!!

This is the first time you get to see the characters in full color! so cool!

If you buy the artist's edition you get a personalized drawing in the inside cover! Very cool! You gota get one of these!
